Ballerina

Madewell Chambray Shirt/ H&M Dress worn as skirt (old)/ Boutique Sandals (similar here and here)/ J.Crew Clutch gifted from friend (old, similar)/ Ray-Ban Aviators/ Earrings (old, similar) and Bracelets from boutiques

At one point or another, I think every little girl dreamed about being a ballerina when she grew up. Enrolled in dance classes from the time when I was six, I know I definitely did. While my career aspirations have changed a little since then, I'm still borrowing pieces from a dancer's wardrobe.

As a lover of all things fashion, I'm definitely not one to shy away from wearing items that can be considered a little different. A tutu is definitely one of these included. I have a tendency to always be overdressed for anything that I do, but I've learned that you can tone down an item's fanciness by pairing it with a few wardrobe basics, like a simple tee, V-neck or chambray shirt. Plus, according to Oscar Wilde, "You can never be overdressed or overeducated."

I don't like to discriminate or play favorites, so the dressier items in my closet get just as much action as everything else simply by using this little trick. So don't be afraid to have a Carrie Bradshaw moment of your own! And for those of you wondering, no, this isn't the only ballerina skirt in my closet... ;)

Cheers,
Elizabeth

  1. Love that dress-skirt! I have the same one in a taupey-beige color, and I DIYed it into a tutu skirt that's gotten tons of compliments. Glad to know I wasn't alone in thinking that it would make a great skirt!

  7. I'm a sucker for a good tulle skirt - I started ballet at six, too, and although I'm not a prima ballerina by any means, I still love ballerina style. And I particularly love the combination of tulle and chambray, you wear it beautifully :)

  13. Wow! I really love how you made a wearable outfit out of a tutu! I have seen them in a few places, and I love them, but I always felt like I would never have a chance to wear them! You have gotta love the trusty chambray shirt! I always seem to find a use for them! Anyway, you look fantastic and I am so glad that I found your blog!
